"He Delivered Our Own Baby": A Husband's Spirit-Led Miracle Birth

A Surprise from the Lord
Jasmine and Dominic weren't planning to get pregnant. They were newly married, and as Jasmine shared, she's never been one to love surprises—"but I can truly say she's the only surprise I've ever loved." They found out on Mother's Day weekend, and from the very beginning, they leaned into what would become the theme of their entire story: trusting God with what they didn't plan for.
Preparing Spiritually, Not Just Practically
Like so many of us, Jasmine and Dominic did the practical things—picking out the crib, getting the nursery ready, hearing the heartbeat at appointments. But they were intentional about something else too: staying rooted in sound teaching, daily time in the Word, and Christian community.
Jasmine, being the one carrying the baby, described printing out a list of scriptures and speaking them out loud anytime fearful or anxious thoughts crept in. "That's such a vulnerable time for us as women," she shared, "so I'd have to lean into His Word and speak out His promises."

When the Birth Took an Unexpected Turn
Jasmine went into labor at 36 weeks—early, but she knew what she was feeling. They packed their hospital bag, had their birth plan ready, and headed in. But once they arrived, things didn't go as planned. Despite Jasmine telling the staff for hours that she was in labor and the baby was coming, she wasn't being heard.
"It became very apparent that it was just us and the Lord," Jasmine said. With no epidural, no medical intervention, and no medical training between the two of them, Dominic ended up delivering their daughter himself—right there in the hospital room.
The Word Dominic Received the Night Before
Here's where the story gets even more remarkable. The night before Jasmine went into labor, Dominic spent time in prayer—specifically praying in the Spirit. In that time, he felt the Lord impress one very specific, very unusual instruction on his heart: learn infant CPR.
He didn't question it. He simply watched a short video on how to do it, not knowing he'd need it within 24 hours.
When their daughter was born, she wasn't breathing. Dominic, following exactly what he'd learned less than a day earlier, performed infant CPR on his newborn daughter—while speaking life and Jesus' name over both her and Jasmine at the same time. She began breathing. A complete miracle.
"If it wasn't for God leading me by His Spirit," Dominic shared, "it could've been a possibly different outcome."
Choosing Faith Over Fear When You Feel Unheard
One of the most tender parts of this conversation was talking about what it feels like when the people around you—even medical professionals—aren't listening to what your body is telling you. Jasmine was honest about that experience, but she was equally clear about what carried her through it:
"When you lean on the Lord, He really will give you a peace, and He will give you the wisdom, and He'll give you everything you need... His grace really is sufficient."

The Power of Community in Postpartum
Jasmine and Dominic didn't walk through this alone. They had family nearby, a praying church family who reached out even while they were still at the hospital, and a pastor who called to check in before they even had a chance to share the news themselves.
"We were not meant to do this alone," Jasmine reminded us. "The Lord designed us for community." If you don't currently have that kind of support system, it is never too late to start building it—whether that's your local church, a small group, or simply reaching out to one trusted friend.
The Biggest Takeaway
When I asked Jasmine and Dominic what the Lord taught them most through this experience, their answer was simple but powerful: learning to yield control and trust Him in the unknown.
"We're so prone to wander," Dominic shared, "and our minds can so easily default to, 'I need to control this, I need to figure this out.' That's not what the Lord has for us." Instead, they were reminded daily to speak truth over themselves and to trust that what the enemy meant for evil, God would turn for good.

Natalie: Hey friend, and welcome back to the podcast. I am so excited about today's conversation, because we're going to hear from a couple whose birth story honestly stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it. Today I'm chatting with Jasmine and Dominic, parents to a precious baby girl, and they're going to share what I can only describe as a full-on miracle birth.
What I love about their story is that it's a living, breathing reminder that the Lord is sovereign over every detail of our birth experiences—even the ones that catch us completely off guard. Jasmine and Dominic walked through something that could have gone so differently, and they're standing on the other side of it with nothing but praise to the Lord for His provision. After hearing their story, I think you will be too.
Jasmine and Dominic, thank you so much for being here today to share your testimony on the podcast.
Dominic: Thank you for having us. We're so excited to share our story and to let others know of the goodness of the Lord. Thank you, Natalie, for giving us the opportunity to share our story. It's a real honor to be here today.
Natalie: Well, let's roll right into it. Tell us from the very beginning—what was the journey like to even becoming pregnant with your precious girl?
Jasmine: It's funny you ask, because she really was a surprise from the Lord. At the time we weren't planning—we were relatively newly married. And it's funny, because people who know me know I'm not a fan of surprises, but I can truly say she's the only surprise I've ever loved, and I would not change it for the world. So it was such a blessing to find out we were pregnant, even though we weren't really looking to be at that time. And it's funny, because when we found out, it was actually Mother's Day weekend.
Natalie: And at the time of recording, we're also on Mother's Day weekend, so it's a fun little anniversary there too. I love that. So how was your pregnancy overall? How were you feeling—emotionally, physically, spiritually, all the things?
Jasmine: Yeah, all the things. I feel like there was a lot going on, but the biggest thing was spiritually—being spiritually prepared. We were already regular participants in our local church, but staying connected, listening to the Word, making sure we were only taking in sound teaching, and really hearing from the Lord and being in Christian community—that was such a huge part of our pregnancy process. We did practical things too, and that's always fun—picking out the crib, getting the room ready, hearing the heartbeat at the appointments. That was a whole lot of fun, but I feel like the spiritual part was really the biggest part of our preparation.
Dominic: Yes, I definitely agree. Just getting spiritually ready is so important—not just for the pregnancy, but for anything in life. Daily Bible reading, going to church, seeking the Lord for guidance, because this is a new season for us, and in this new season we need God more than ever. I just want to praise the Lord for giving us the ability to get ready for the season and prepare for our baby girl.
Jasmine: And I feel like I especially had to—being the one carrying the baby—I printed out a list of scriptures and I would read over them. If the enemy ever tried to come at me with thoughts, we have to take those thoughts captive, because I feel like that's such a vulnerable time for us as women when we're carrying a child. I would have to speak out and say something—speak out those scriptures, speak out those promises—because I did feel like there was tension there, where I was getting thoughts I knew weren't from the Lord, so I'd have to lean into His Word and speak out His promises.
Natalie: I love that, especially with your first, which I feel like makes it so easy to default to the practical side of preparation. Not that preparing spiritually isn't practical, but I think it's so much easier to just say, "Okay, let me prepare for the birth itself and learn all the pregnancy things," and then neglect refocusing the whole experience around the Lord. I think that's why this podcast even exists—because it's easy to become distracted by purely the physical, mental, and social changes that are happening. But when we invite the Lord into this experience, there's so much more joy in it. I love that you guys were following the Lord so closely, even in the preparation.
So you shared with me a little bit of your story already, but I'd love for you to dive into what was happening leading up to labor, and how the Lord specifically led you to how the birth played out.
Jasmine: It started off like it was going to be pretty practical. I was about 36 weeks—so early—but I knew I was in labor, so we had our hospital bag packed and everything in the car. Like you said, it's easy to get into the practical, so we had our checklist, our birth plan, all the things. We got to the hospital, and that's when we realized things were taking a turn. Spoiler alert—my husband actually delivered our baby.
Leading up to that, I was in labor, having contractions, and I felt the baby coming, but they weren't really listening to me—that's a whole other story. It became very apparent that it was just us and the Lord, and we were going to have to deliver this baby. I didn't have an epidural, I didn't have any of that. The baby was coming. Dominic was there, and I was pushing.
I got up, and Dominic helped me to the restroom in the hospital room, and I was pushing. He was fully delivering the baby at that point, totally by the guidance and wisdom of the Lord. The Word says, "If a man lacks wisdom, let him ask, and He will give it to him." Neither of us had any medical background whatsoever—no medical training at all. He delivered the baby, and she was so beautiful, but she wasn't breathing. Dominic performed infant CPR, and that was such a miracle in itself. Dominic, do you want to share about the infant CPR piece?
Dominic: Yes. Natalie, the night before, I was praying. We'd had long nights staying up, waiting for the baby to come, and as the husband I wanted to support her as much as I could—comforting her, being there by her side. I felt a need to pray to the Lord, kind of like when Jesus was praying and the disciples kept falling asleep, and He said, "Could you not stay an hour and pray with me?" So I said, "Okay, Lord," and I started praying to the Lord—specifically praying in the Holy Spirit, which is speaking in tongues, a heavenly language that's a gift He gives to the followers of Jesus Christ.
I was praying in the Holy Ghost, just asking Him to prepare me for the birth, and I felt the Lord—I heard the word of the Lord come to me, and He said, "Infant CPR." I felt a really strong urge to learn infant CPR. I'd never learned it before, and I thought, "Okay, this isn't a bad thing to learn, since I'm having a baby." But little did I know that the very next day I'd be performing it.
So I got online and watched a two-minute video on how to do infant CPR, not knowing I'd be using it the next day. The scripture says the Lord knows all things and will show you things to come as you pray. I just give all the glory to God for preparing me and giving me the wisdom and knowledge to perform infant CPR. If it wasn't for God leading me by His Spirit, it could have been a very different outcome. After I performed CPR, she—complete miracle—started breathing and doing all the normal things you'd expect.
Jasmine: I don't even know if he remembers this part, but because I was still connected to the baby by the umbilical cord, I was standing right there while he was performing CPR, and he was also speaking over her and over me. He was saying, "I speak life over her and over Jasmine. I speak life in the name of Jesus." After that, it was just such a beautiful moment—like, wow, look at the Lord. I could never have imagined we'd be delivering our own baby. We didn't anticipate her coming early at 36 weeks, but as Dominic said, all glory to God. It's just such an amazing experience, how He can lead you and give you knowledge and truth in an area you don't even know about.
Natalie: Wow, I have goosebumps all over just thinking about it. The Lord is so faithful to us, and I love that you guys were so attuned to hearing what He had for you. Dominic, the night before, the Lord gave you a very specific word to learn something, and instead of thinking, "That's weird, why would the Lord give me that? I'll just log it away," you leaned into it. And what a beautiful testimony that He used it so immediately to help save your daughter's life. I'm just flabbergasted at how it all worked out.
What I'm curious about, though—why didn't anyone at the hospital believe you were as far along as you were? For the mamas listening who are thinking, "What if that happens to me? What if no one listens to me?"—it sounds like that's a whole other aspect of this story: when the people around you aren't listening or heeding what's happening to you, the Lord still provides. I feel like that's a huge message in all of this. Share a little more about what was going on with that side of things.
Jasmine: When we got there, I was obviously very big and pregnant. I think there should have been some precautions taken—like, "Hey, this person is pregnant." I was checked in, so I wasn't just sitting in the lobby. They checked my vitals and everything at first, but then it got to the point where, for hours, I was saying, "I'm in labor, I feel the baby coming, can someone check me? Can we get some help?"
I love the name of your podcast, Faith Over Fear, because the immediate temptation is to get fearful, anxious, worried, or even angry. But all I cared about was getting this precious baby girl here safely and leaning on the Lord. I think the preparation helped in that moment—because we were so filled with the Word, I believe that's what came out in us. We immediately thought, "Okay, we say we believe the Word—this is it. It's just us."
As far as the medical staff goes, they were switching staff and had a lot of other things going on. I think that's a whole other story—or a whole other podcast—to discuss the neglect or discrimination that can happen. But I will say, for mothers who hear this and get worried or fearful: please don't. When you lean on the Lord, He really will give you peace and wisdom and everything you need. I know it sounds crazy, but His grace really is sufficient.
Natalie: I completely agree. I don't know if you guys know my story with my third, but he came at 33 weeks, totally unexpected. I just went into labor, and I remember that initial feeling of fear—but then the Lord's peace covered me like a blanket. That peace that passes all understanding is such a gift, and I can hear it in your story that the Lord was doing the same thing with you. In the natural, you had a lot to be concerned about, but the Lord was saying, "No—Jasmine, Dominic, I've got you. You are perfectly in my hands, and no matter what's going on around you, no matter what the staff is doing or not doing, I am here." That is a gift—to know the Lord is with you is everything. I'm so happy that was how your story unfolded, because it gives so much glory to Him, that we can praise Him even in circumstances we would never have chosen, and He still puts His goodness on display.
Dominic: Even submitting to Him—because there were times dealing with the staff where, for those who know me, my background is in law, so my immediate instinct is, "Hey, I'm a lawyer." But I felt the peace of the Lord telling me, "I've got this, just trust in me," and reminding me that my identity is as a son of Christ, not in that instinct. Like you said, that same blanket of peace that surpasses understanding—you can't really explain it until you experience it. It was so amazing.
Natalie: Share a little more about what happened after she was born—that time in the hospital, and then into the postpartum season. I'd love to hear how the Lord continued to meet you.
Jasmine: Postpartum was a combination of the spiritual and the support. If you've got a good support system, that makes all the difference in the world. When she was born, my parents lived about ten minutes away, I have two brothers who each lived about ten minutes away with their families, and my aunt lived about fifteen or twenty minutes away—so a huge support system, willing to do anything to help with the baby, which was amazing. I can acknowledge that not everyone has that kind of family support, but for those who can find a good church community, I really do think having support in the postpartum process is just as important as the spiritual side.
We continued with the spiritual—we went back to church relatively quickly, not the first or second week, but soon after. We kept meditating on scripture, listening to the Word, and praying over her. But it's a whole process, feeling normal again and feeling like yourself again, while also making sure she's sleeping and eating, doing the breastfeeding and pumping—all of it was happening at once. I think the support system combined with the spiritual side was so helpful.
Dominic: It really does make all the difference to have that support system, like she mentioned, and loved ones. We reached out to our brothers for help or for food, and we have a good praying church that always prayed for us—even leading up to the pregnancy, they were praying God's Word over us, speaking truth into existence. We're really thankful to have had that support system. It made a huge difference in our postpartum journey with our baby.
Jasmine: I want to say our pastor actually reached out to us—I think it was on the way to the hospital, or while we were already there. What a way to be led. She reached out to let us know she was praying for us and asked how the pregnancy was going, and I was like, "Actually, I'm at the hospital in labor right now." It was such a good way to start the postpartum experience—having a good church family, and natural family too.
Natalie: We were surrounded by prayer and support, to put it simply. I say it all the time—we were not meant to do this alone. The Lord designed us for community, and I think one of the ways we get to experience the goodness of the church is in times like this, when people come alongside us, pray for us, and provide practical things like food, or just someone to hold the baby so you can catch a catnap. It's a beautiful picture of the gospel—He designed us as a body, and we get to experience that in a different way.
Becoming a parent stretches you in ways you never could have imagined. You might cognitively realize, "Okay, there's going to be a lot of change," but until it's happening to you, there's a need in your heart, your body, and your spirit that changes completely once you have a baby. I love that you leaned so much into your family and your church family in receiving that kind of support. And really, if you don't have that kind of community, it's never too late to start building it—start investing in relationships in your church community if you don't have family nearby. It's such a game-changer.
Dominic: I love that you say, "get plugged in"—truly, because we were not meant to do this alone. That's not what the Lord intended for us. Even during the times I was alone, doing so much—I remember being on my exercise bike while the baby was breastfeeding, listening to sermons. It's just so much, like you said—you can't really grasp it until it happens to you, but it completely changes your life. It's beautiful, but it's truly life-changing, and it happens so fast.
That's a good point you made, Natalie—we're not made to do this alone, and that's something that's been instilled in us through our ministers, as the body of Christ. We're all joined together, and we bring our own supply. The scripture says, "Iron sharpens iron"—where we're deficient, the other one can help us in those weak areas. It's vital for listeners to stay plugged into church, to build those bonds and connections with fellow members, because that makes all the difference. It helps you grow in your faith and gives you a buffer to help you overcome things when they come.
Natalie: The Word also talks about how none of us are equipped with every gift—we don't have all of them, but we have certain gifts that are such a blessing to the body. If you're listening and you're in that newborn stage, feeling like, "Lord, I have nothing to give anybody else, I feel like I'm treading water at all times," the Lord will meet you even in that. I remember right after our son Isaac was born—the one born at 33 weeks—there was such a need for us to just receive prayer. When a friend would reach out and leave me a voice memo with a prayer, or text me, "I'm praying these specific things for you," it meant everything to me. Maybe she felt like she had nothing practical to give—she couldn't bring a meal or watch the other kids—but she thought, "I'm just going to pray for her." There is so much power in praying for your friends who are going through this season, and realizing the Lord will move in your prayers. I love that you guys have focused so much on prayer in this, because it can feel secondary to more practical help, but that is such a true form of loving and serving somebody.
Stepping back from the whole experience, what's one of the biggest lessons or takeaways the Lord showed you through all of this?
Dominic: For me, it was learning that the Lord is a very present help in trouble when you call upon His name. You know these things from the Bible, but until you actually walk it out, you don't truly know what God is capable of—and learning to trust Him in that moment is something I'm always learning to do. I've grown in that place of saying, "Okay, God, I'm here in this wilderness, in the unknown—Lord, help us overcome. What are the practical steps to achieve Your will and get through the storm?" Learning how to yield to Him in times of desperation is something I've learned personally. It's been very challenging for my wife, and challenging for me to see her go through it, but learning to not look at the circumstances, and instead look at the Lord and let Him lead us out of the situation, is something we've grown in—as a couple. All glory to God.
Jasmine: For me, it reminds me of the scripture that says the Word won't return void—in other words, the Word works. Anytime I've put my faith in it and activated it—spoken out the Word, spoken out those promises—He has not let me down, from the time I found out I was pregnant, all the way up until now. Our baby girl is actually sixteen months now, which is wild to me—I'm like, "What is happening with time?" Whenever you believe those promises and speak them out, there's so much power in using your voice—there's power in the words of the tongue. I still remember, anytime the enemy tries to say something about our daughter or our family, speaking the promises and the Word over her and over our family was a lesson we went through, but also a reminder—because, like he said, you know these things, but putting them into practice is a different thing.
Dominic: Yeah, we're so prone to wander, and our minds can so easily default to, "I need to control this, I need to figure this out"—and that's not what the Lord has for us. So we have to constantly remind ourselves of the truth and speak it over ourselves, continually, moment by moment.
Natalie: If it weren't for the fact that I have to remind myself of the gospel literally every day of my life, I don't know how I could operate in it, because the default is to not operate in the gospel. The enemy wants us to operate completely in and of ourselves, and that's not what brings us joy, truth, and wisdom in this life. I love that this is what the Lord has been teaching you, and will continue to teach you as she gets older. I think parenting has honestly stretched me more than anything else in my life—more than marriage, more than anything. The Lord is faithful to give you the practical wisdom to navigate His world and His way.
Jasmine: I think it's so important to share with others what the Lord can do. It reminds me of the scripture—what the enemy meant for evil, the Lord will turn for good. He turned it for so much good. As Dominic said, we're stronger as a couple, I feel like we're stronger parents because of it, and stronger in our faith. Such a blessing. Thank you again so much for having us on your podcast.
